Since 2022, Cleveland Animal Care and Control (CACC) has experienced a significant increase in the number of animals, which is a trend seen in many shelters across the country. To help manage this growing population, CACC, as an open intake city-operated shelter, collaborates with local rescue organizations that often take in dogs and integrate them into their programs. Some of these dogs require medical attention that can be quite expensive, including major surgeries, treatment for Parvovirus, dental work, and more.
To help cover these medical costs, Friends established the Rescue Sponsorship Program, which aims to give dogs—particularly large breed dogs—a second chance. This program provides local rescue organizations with funds to help offset a portion of the medical expenses incurred for each dog.
In 2025, Friends donated $66,278 to eleven local rescue organizations, enabling 57 dogs to find happy, healthy, forever homes.
